Whether you happen to be male or female, owning a defined, lean set of abs is a goal many of us aspire to. I think most people will agree that it doesn’t promote a positive image of somebody when their bloated belly hangs down over their pants.

Some people are under the misconception that you achieve this by performing hundreds of ab exercises each day. Although there’s nothing wrong with performing an ab routine, it’s ineffective at actually burning the fat to reveal them! Your abdominals are a fairly small muscle group in the grand scheme of things. Ab exercises do cause growth, but you can only see the improvements if you have very low fat levels around the abs! Relentlessly training abs is not the best way to make them appear..

A good diet and exercise plan are essential to boost metabolism and strip the fat away from the abs. Your abs will still be hidden by fat if you do not have a proper diet and exercise program, irrespective of how many crunches you do each day.

You must be lifting weights as part of your program using a routine that targets all your bodyparts, this will raise your metabolism. You’ll burn far more fat if you have more lean muscle.

There are several exercises that you should employ for your weight training routine:

The Squat is one of the best exercises that you can perform. It works the legs, as well as the back and shoulders. It is a big ‘compound lift’, meaning that most of your body is working in some way to help lift the weight! Ensure that it’s included in your routine.

Performing a few sets of lunges are great for your legs. I always include them in my own routine and beginners can easily get to grips with the simple movement.

The bench press is another big compound lift that should be incorporated. It will work the chest and shoulders and can you add a decent amount of lean muscle using this exercise which will cause an increase in your bodys metabolic rate.

Make sure that you have a good cardio and diet plan as well as a weight training program.
